IPL PhotoFacial Q & A

What is a Forever Young BBL photofacial?

The Forever Young BBL photofacial is a light-based skin therapy that uses Broad Band Light (BBL) to target hyperpigmentation and redness. Light is absorbed by melanin (sun damage, age spots, etc.) and absorbed by oxyhemoglobin (redness, capillaries, cherry angiomas) leaving your skin brighter and clearer. At Amélie, the team offers Forever Young BBL photofacials using the versatile Joule X™ from Sciton®, a leader in the medical technology industry.

When treating for pigmentation, Broad Band Light is pulsed into the skin to target pigmentation at varying layers of the skin. The light is absorbed by the melanin which coagulates the tissue. The body then pushes the dead tissue to the surface of the skin where it appears almost like coffee grounds on the surface of the skin before flaking off, leaving the skin bright and clear. When treating for redness, Broad Band Light is pulsed into the skin to target visible capillaries, diffuse redness, and cherry angiomas.

Broad Band Light also stimulates the production of collagen in the skin for overall rejuvenation. Boosting collagen production can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, improve the one and texture of the skin, and thicken the skin in areas where it has become thin.

What results can I expect from my Forever Young BBL photofacial?

A Forever Young BBL photofacial can lighten sun damage and reduce redness in the skin. In three treatments you can see a significant difference in the darkness of your pigmentation. Reducing redness in the skin can dramatically improve how the skin looks as well as how it feels. Redness from rosacea can cause heat which can be somewhat uncomfortable. We always recommend combining proper skincare with your facial treatments. A Forever Young BBL photofacial might be a good option for you if you struggle with:

  • Sun damage
  • Age spots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Rosacea
  • Visible papillaries
  • Cherry angiomas

We always recommend a series of 3-6 BBLs for best results spread 30 days apart. During the initial series we are targeting damage in the skin, once we have achieved the results we want you will move into a maintenance phase. Your provider will design a program to maintain your results but we typically see people coming in every quarter for a Forever Young BBL to keep the pigmentation and redness at bay.

How should I prepare for my Forever Young BBL photofacial?

Before your series of Forever Young BBL photofacials, we recommend a consultation with the team at Amelie to get you started on skincare. Pre-treating with a tyrosinase inhibitor and SPF 30+ is something that we require for our clients. In the weeks leading up to your photofacial, you should avoid:

  • Direct sun exposure
  • Tanning beds
  • Self tanner
  • All exfoliants and other harsh skin treatments
  • Waxing
  • Dermal fillers
  • Ibuprofen, aspirin, and other blood thinners

Following these steps minimizes your risks, failure to follow these can result in unwanted complications. After your BBL, your skin may feel a bit sensitive in the days following your appointment. You should plan to avoid heat, sun, and sweating for 48hrs as well as direct sun exposure for at least 1-2 weeks.
