Injectables Q & A

What is Botox®?

Botox® is an injectable with a 25-year track record of successful medical and cosmetic applications. The most popular use for Botox® is for aesthetic anti-aging purposes.

The active ingredient in the drug, a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin, blocks the nerve signals that communicate with your muscles and cause them to flex. This helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines from repeated muscle movements, particularly on your face. Physicians also use Botox® to treat several medical conditions and symptoms from overactive muscles.

At Amélie, the team uses very fine needles to place your Botox® injections. They also use distraction techniques and ice to make your treatment as painless as possible.

Which areas can I target with Botox® injections?

At Amélie, the team helps you select from the menu of available Botox® services. While wrinkles are the most widely recognized target for Botox®, Botox® can treat other features too. Amélie’s menu of Botox® services includes:

Between the Brows

Between the Brows treatment with Botox® specifically addresses prominent 11s between your eyebrows, which are also called frown lines.

Fresh Face

The Fresh Face Botox® treatment addresses several wrinkles on the upper half of your face, including crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead ridges.

Bright Eyes

Bright Eyes diminishes crow’s feet wrinkles on the outer sides of your eyes.

Lip Flip

Lip Flip reduces lines and wrinkles on and around your lips. It also helps your upper lip look more voluminous.

Smooth Sailing

Smooth Sailing addresses forehead lines and frown lines at the same time.

Facial Slimming

The team at Amélie can use Botox® injections to help relax your jaw and keep it from clenching.

Many patients don’t realize that Botox® can treat excessive sweating, specifically under your armpits. The condition is called hyperhidrosis and responds well to Botox® injections.

Am I a good candidate for Botox® injections?

The team at Amélie helps you identify your specific goals for treatment and requests information about your current health and medical history to decide whether or not Botox® is the best form of treatment for you. You might be a candidate if:

  • You’re over 18
  • You’re not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have no active skin conditions
  • You have realistic expectations

The team at Amélie may recommend Botox® to you as a preventive measure even before you develop facial wrinkles if you’re concerned about getting them.

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is a minimally invasive treatment that targets and destroys unwanted or hard-to-lose fat cells below the chin and jaw. It comes in the form of an injectable that the team at Amélie places beneath your chin at multiple injection sites.

The active ingredient in Kybella® is called deoxycholic acid, which is a bile acid. Your liver produces the same acid to help break down fat from your diet in your intestines. Similarly, Kybella® injections help break down stored fat beneath your chin. The fat cells that Kybella® destroys can no longer store fat at all, so the results are permanent.

What does Kybella® treat?

Kybella® treats double chin fat and the fat that contributes to your jowls. Fat in the chin area is often particularly difficult to lose even if you follow a healthy diet. This is because chin fat usually develops because of your genes, posture, age-related skin laxity, and other factors that have nothing to do with your weight.

How many treatments with Kybella® will I need?

If you choose to get Kybella® injections for your double chin, the Amélie team tells you how many rounds of treatments you’ll need to see a significant reduction. In most cases, a single round of Kybella® injections involves 20-50 individual injections. You’ll start noticing a difference after 2-4 treatments, but you may need up to six treatments in total.

Am I a good candidate for Kybella®?

Before adding Kybella® to your aesthetic transformation, you should consult with a member of the team at Amélie about your goals and health history. They might decide that you’re a candidate for Kybella® injections if you:

  • Are 18 or older
  • Feel uncomfortable with your chin fat
  • Have never had facial surgery
  • Aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Exercise and eat healthy foods
  • Don’t want to undergo surgery

If you and your provider decide together that Kybella® is right for you, they tell you what you can expect during your treatment and how to prepare for a successful appointment.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are a type of injectable that you can use to add volume beneath your skin that mimics subdermal fat. As you age, you lose some of your subdermal fat and the collagen that keeps your skin structured. With dermal fillers, you can fight some of the physical effects of the aging process.

The team at Amélie uses fillers carefully and places small doses strategically beneath your skin to make sure you don’t look overdone. In fact, others won’t be able to tell that you got fillers at all after a well-done treatment. The team recommends booking your filler appointment at least 14 days before any big events where you’d like to show off your results.

What can dermal fillers do?

Dermal fillers are highly versatile. While most people think of plump lips or cheeks when they think of fillers, there are lots of different changes you can make with them. At Amélie, the team offers the following menu of dermal filler services:

Perfect Pout

Perfect Pout makes your lips plump and soft. The team at Amélie makes sure your results look natural yet striking.

Feeling Cheeky

Feeling Cheeky is the perfect treatment to plump your lips and restore their youthful volume.

Love Your Smile

Love Your Smile is a dermal filler treatment that reduces the lines above your lips and on either side of your mouth.

Liquid Face-lift

The Liquid Face-lift is a comprehensive dermal filler treatment that restores a more youthful face shape. Your provider works with you to customize the treatment and target specific features.

Youthful Hands

Unlike the other dermal filler packages, Youthful Hands restores volume in your hands instead of your face. If your hands look bony or aged, this is the filler treatment for you.

Neck fillers

If you have permanent horizontal lines on your neck from staring downward at a computer all day, dermal fillers can help reduce them.

What should I expect during my treatment with dermal fillers?

Filler treatments at Amélie typically last no longer than one hour. When you arrive at your appointment, the team gives you numbing medication and ice to make sure you don’t feel uncomfortable during your treatment. They also use distraction techniques to make the appointment go by quickly. Once your injections are complete, you can expect your results to last nine months to two years.

What is PRF?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRF) isn’t a traditional drug: It’s a formula of components from your blood that help your body heal and rejuvenate naturally. Specifically, it contains two essential parts:

Blood plasma

Blood plasma is the yellowish liquid that carries your red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets through your veins and arteries. It consists of water and various proteins.

Platelets are a type of cell in your blood that, when activated, helps rebuild your tissues after an injury. They clot together and release growth factors to kick off the healing process.

What can PRF treat?

The team at Amélie is excited to offer many enhancements using PRF to promote cell regeneration and youthfulness. Your options include:

PRF Hair Restoration

PRF can help if you have a receding hairline or a growing bald spot. With three initial rounds of PRF injections and maintenance treatments after that, you can regrow your natural hair instead of using plugs, wigs, or hairpieces.

PRF Face-lift

By combining dermal fillers with PRF, you can boost your skin’s natural collagen production for long-lasting, natural facial enhancements.

PRF Facial

Often mistaken for a PRF face-lift, a PRF facial is a microneedling treatment with a PRF infusion. It boosts collagen and elastin growth in your skin to make it firmer, smoother, and tighter.

Aquagold® with PRF

Aquagold is a microinjector device that uses gold-plated steel needles to create channels in your face. During an Aquagold treatment with PRF, the injector infuses a formula of PRF, dermal fillers, Botox®, and/or vitamins into your skin to improve the appearance of scars, wrinkles, and fine lines, and lost volume.

The V-Shot is an injection of PRF for your feminine functioning. The shot revitalizes the tissues in your vagina and clitoris to improve sexual response and treat urinary incontinence.

What are the benefits of using PRF for my treatment?

PRF provides a number of benefits when compared to various medications and treatments with similar intentions. The main advantage of using PRF, besides its ability to stimulate cell regeneration, is its lack of side effects. Since the substance comes from your own body, you have little to no chance of rejecting it or getting an adverse reaction.

To find out more about PRF and the treatments that utilize it, call Amélie for a consultation or book your visit online today.

What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra Aesthetic® is an FDA-approved injectable that helps gradually replace lost collagen—the most common protein in the body that is used to form a framework to support cell and tissue—for results that can last more than two years.*

As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra Aesthetic® helps restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin to diminish facial wrinkles.
Sculptra Aesthetic® works with your body within the deep dermis to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. Results appear gradually over the first several months, and are extremely long lasting. In fact 80% of Sculptra® clients are still satisfied with their treatment results 25 months after their last injection.

If you want to appear more youthful-looking — without appearing like you’ve had work done — then chances are Sculptra Aesthetic® may be a good choice for you!

QWO® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. Together, there are three things that cause cellulite’s signature dimples: over time, skin thins, fat cells enlarge and push against the skin, and the fibrous bands under the skin’s surface thicken and cause tension.

How does QWO® work?

Enzymes called collagenases target the structural causes under the skin, where cellulite starts. QWO® works by releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating the growth of new collagen to lessen the appearance of dimpling.

How many treatments will I need?

Each treatment visit may include up to two treatment areas. QWO® injections will be given three weeks apart for a total of three treatment visits. Injections take about 10 minutes or less, and visible results can be seen in as little as 10 weeks!

Are there side effects of QWO®?

There is moderate bruising associated with QWO® injections (this is how it effectively destroys cellulite), so it is not recommended you have any events within 2 weeks that may show the treated area (i.e. a vacation where you plan to wear a swimsuit). There are other risks associated with this product that your provider will discuss with you at your consultation.

In the hands of our skilled practitioners, QWO® treatments for cellulite offer less risk for complications than conventional surgery and the results are long-lasting!
