What Is the Plasma Pen & How Does It Work?

The Subnovii plasma pen works by utilizing two low-frequency wavelengths which interact with the gas on the surface of your skin to create a plasma arc. This plasma arc causes deep dermal heating to stimulate your skin’s fibroblasts, the structures responsible for collagen production. Because collagen is responsible for the framework below the skin’s surface, boosting production has major rejuvenating effects.

What Does the Plasma Pen Treat?

Subnovii works like a charm in stubborn areas that we can’t target with traditional collagen induction treatments like microneedling or HALO™ laser skin resurfacing. Common areas include:

  • Upper and lower eyelids (a nonsurgical eyelid lift)
  • Smiles lines
  • Tech neck lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Marionette lines

Are Plasma Pen Treatments Safe?

The Subnovii plasma pen is FDA-approved for the treatment of static lines and skin laxity. Plasma technology has been safely used in Europe for years. Our highly trained skin specialists have done extensive training with top Subnovii providers to give our clients the best experience and results possible.

How Should I Prepare For My Subnovii Treatment?

Before your Subnovii treatment, you’ll attend a consultation with a helpful member of the Amélie team. Here, you’ll receive your pre- and post-treatment skincare products, as well as specific instructions on how to prepare for your treatment and what to expect afterward.

What Is It Like To Have a Plasma Pen Treatment Done?

We’ll start by prepping your skin with topical numbing cream to make sure you’re totally comfortable during your treatment. Your provider will then use the pen to create a matrix of tiny dots within your targeted area. Treatments typically take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area you’re treating.

What Is Recovery Like After a Plasma Pen Treatment?

After your treatment, your skin will be swollen, tender, and covered in tiny crusts in the treated area. These crusts will remain on the skin for about 7 days and will flake off naturally. (We know it’s hard, but you’ll need to resist the urge to pick at or exfoliate them!) Subnovii requires dry healing, so any time you wash your face, you’ll need to immediately dry it and apply the provided Subnovii Healing Powder.

You can expect a week of social downtime where you won’t be able to hide the little dark dots the pen leaves behind. For about 12 weeks, you’ll need to avoid extreme heat and cold. Following these steps minimizes your risks of unwanted complications, such as hyperpigmentation.

How Many Plasma Pen Treatments Will I Need?

Results vary from person to person. Some people might only need one treatment, while others might need more. It depends on your anatomy, the quality of your skin, your dedication to aftercare, and your goals.
