What Is Laser Hair Removal?
It’s often called laser hair removal, but we want to be 100% transparent with our clients. We refer to this treatment as laser hair reduction, its true name. There’s no such thing as permanent laser hair removal (the only truly permanent solution is electrolysis), but we can reduce the growth of hair in the treated area for about 2 years before you need maintenance. There is a chance that your hair may not grow back at all or grow back very sparsely when it does.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal works by utilizing pulsed light. This light is attracted to the melanin in the hair itself. The hair absorbs the light which damages the follicle, causing hair to not grow back temporarily. The reason that hair can grow back over time is that there are stem cells inside the follicle that surround the hair bulb and repair the damaged follicle, allowing it to produce hairs again.
Where Can I Get Laser Hair Removal Done On My Body?
You can have laser hair removal done on many areas of your face and body, including:
The upper lip and chin
Underarms
Bikini or Brazilian
Upper and lower legs
Upper and lower arms
If you’re looking to get rid of peach fuzz on your upper lip and chin, you may also want to check out dermaplaning!

For 2 weeks before your treatment, you should avoid sun exposure. If you’re treating the bikini area, remember that swimsuit material is not enough protection from the sun. The light is attracted to melanin, so it can’t distinguish between your hair and your tan. We ask that you shave the area the night before or the day of so that only the hair inside the follicle is absorbing the heat.
A few things to stay away from before laser hair removal:
Direct sun exposure
Tanning beds
Self tanner
All exfoliants and other harsh skin treatments
Waxing
Dermal fillers
Following these steps minimizes your risks, and failure to follow these can result in unwanted complications.
Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
You can expect your treatment to feel like the snap of a rubber band every time the light flashes. It’s tolerable and quick, though your treatment time may vary depending on the size of your targeted area.
What Is Recovery Like After Laser Hair Removal?
Your skin may feel a little sensitive in the days following your appointment. You should plan to avoid heat, sun, and sweating for 48 hours, as well as direct sun exposure for at least 1 or 2 weeks.
How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Will I Need?
We treat in a series of 6 sessions, each spaced 4 weeks apart. The entire series must be completed in 4-week intervals to see lasting results. About 2 weeks after each treatment, you might see treated hairs falling out. You might be tempted to stop your treatments when you notice less hair growing back each month, but you’ll need to complete your full series of 6 to see the best and longest-lasting results.
