Pre+ Post Care

Chemical Peel

For best results, it is advised to avoid sun exposure and the following products & procedures one week prior to your treatment:

  • Electrolysis
  • Waxing
  • Depilatory creams
  • Laser hair removal
  • Any exfoliating products that may be drying or irritating
  • Any products that may be drying or irritating, including products containing salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acids, vitamin c, hydroquinone, retinoids, and prescription medication

General guidelines:

  • It is common and expected that your skin would be red, possibly itchy, and/or irritated. It is also possible that other adverse side effects may occur, including but not limited to skin breakout or acne, rash, swelling, redness, and burning.
  • After receiving a chemical peel, the skin may look and feel like a mild windburn for the next 2 or 3 days. After 48 hours, slight flaking may occur for 3 to 5 days which can easily be controlled with moisturizers.
  • It is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight.
  • To minimize side effects and maximize results, use the post procedure skin care for 3 to 5 days or until flaking has resolved.
  • Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. An SPF of at least 30 must be used daily.
  • Do not go to a tanning bed for at least two weeks post procedure. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
  • Do not pick or pull on any loosening skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.

Botox

Pre and post-treatment care instructions:

  • This treatment is not recommended if you have an important event within 2 weeks of injection due to the potential for bruising.
  • To minimize bruising, avoid blood thinners for 2 weeks before treatment unless you have been instructed to take blood thinners for a medical reason from your PCP.
  • For the first 4-6 hours following Botox®/Dysport®/Xeomin®, remain upright and periodically perform facial movements in the areas of injections in order to work the wrinkle relaxer into the muscle - e.g., smile, squint, etc.
  • Do not participate in activities that include heavy lifting, vigorous exercise or straining for 4-6 hours (it takes approximately 4 hours for the wrinkle relaxer to bind to the nerve and you do not want to increase circulation during that time).
  • Do not rub, touch, or manipulate the areas you were injected for 4-6 hours.
  • Avoid irritating products for 24 hours following your injections (retinol, Vitamin C, etc.)
  • Make-up may be gently applied before leaving the office, remember to wipe up and away from your eyes or brows.
  • Bruising in the area injected is normal and often expected, especially if treated around the eyes. Bruising can last up to several weeks. Using/taking Arnica before and after injections may help diminish bruising.
  • It may take up to 14 days for your wrinkle relaxer to take full effect.
  • A follow-up visit at 14-21 days is suggested to assess results for subsequent treatments, particularly if you are a first-time client.
  • Re-treatment is typically needed between 3-4 months.
  • Regular injections usually yield a longer-lasting result.
  • If your upper lip was treated you will not be able to drink through a straw, whistle, or enunciate some words for approximately 2 weeks.

Post-care:

After each treatment session with SculptraAesthetic®, there are a few easy things you will need to help with the treatment results. You can print out this instruction sheet and keep it handy, so you remember to do these things every day:

  • HAVE AN - ice pack ready: Within the first 24 hours of treatment, apply a cloth-wrapped ice pack to the treated area for a few minutes at a time. Never apply ice directly to the skin.
The cold will help reduce common swelling.
  • GIVE YOURSELF - facial massages: Massage the treated area for 5 minutes 5 times a day for 5 days after treatment as recommended by your physician
  • AVOID - excess sunlight and UV exposure: Protecting your skin from the sun is always important, but after treatment, excessive sunlight and UV lamp exposure should be avoided until any initial swelling and redness go away. Your doctor will provide guidelines on sunscreen protection and how to avoid excessive sunlight.
  • Treated areas may be red, swollen, and bruised for the first 2-7 days.
  • Avoid strenuous workouts and alcohol for 24 hours if possible.
  • If bruising occurs, continue Arnica supplements, DO apply topical Arnica gel, drink fresh pineapple juice, and/or take Bromelain supplements to help bruising resolve faster.
  • Bruising can be covered with makeup. i.e. Dermablend (CVS or Macy’s) or Colorescience Corrective Palette.
  • A few days after treatment, you will look as you did before treatment. This is normal, over time, SculptraAesthetic® will replace lost collagen.

  • Have an antihistamine such as Claritin or Zyrtec available at home for discomfort and itching that may result from the procedure. This will also reduce swelling

  • After your treatment, you should expect swelling and redness. You may also experience bruising, pain, numbness, and induration. This will normally last less than 5 days, but for some patients may last 14 days or longer
  • You may elect to ice the area post treatment. You may apply a cold compress to the area for 20 minutes per hour, and you may do this hourly for 24 hours following your injections

  • To minimize bruising, avoid blood thinners for 2 weeks before treatment unless you have been instructed to take blood thinners for a medical reason from your PCP.

  • You may experience small red bumps around the hair follicle. This is normal and expected. Do not pick, rub or scratch these until they have cleared. Your skin overall may be sensitive for several days following your laser hair removal treatment.
  • If your skin scabs or crusts, or you experience a burn, do not pick, rub or scratch these areas. Doing so can result in infection, permanent pigment changes in your skin, or even scarring. Gently cleanse the area and apply hydrocortisone cream several times a day for one week. If the area is open, also apply a layer of antibiotic ointment over the hydrocortisone cream. Please contact us immediately if you experience any burns.

  • Subsequent treatment sessions should be 6 to 8 weeks if done on the face and 8 to 12 weeks if done on the body.
